What made the trip scary was the condition of the road and all the heavy trucks using it. Lydenburg's the town's roads are very badly damaged because of all the trucks travelling through the town. Why doesn't the mining owners take up their responsibility and maintain the roads their trucks are using. We took another route home, and avoided Long Tom Pass. We are standing with you Lydenburg! Thaba Chweu Municipality - a pathetic display of welcome to Lydenburg. I rode through Lydenburg Mashishing from Dullstroom through to Sabie and was dismayed at the unbelievable condition of the roads in and through Lydenburg and along the Long Tom Pass route. Please avoid this area unless you are riding in a 4-wheel drive vehicle and are prepared to waste time negotiating terrible road surfaces, potholes and trucks responsible for the carnage.

I visited different neighboring places like Sabie Pilgrims rest and etc , Graskop Gods window and etc and Dullsroom horse riding and flying fish. There were different restaurants around Lydenburg. It was easy to get around the place because it is not congested. Lots to do in that area. Wish we had stayed 3 days, instead of 1.

We ate at Cafe Crust and the experience was so-so, but we went late , so maybe that was why. We are at Jam Jar and it was amazing!! Good food and incredible service. We stayed at Aqua Terra Guest House - it was great!! It's a nice place and it's too comfortable and can accommodate anyone Got my supper at nandos and had a great breakfast at wimpy It's very easy to get to lydenburg.
There is just so much for tourists in the area - the beauty, the game, the biodiversity, the history both political and economic history. The town is also on route to the world-renowned Kruger National Park. However, it is clear that the local and provincial governments are simply not functional when it comes to Lydenburg. The roads leading to and from the town are in such a bad state of repair. It is simply not advisable to travel around the area at night or in wet weather. The potholes are such that they are car-breakers if hit.

Hops Hollow Brewery is worth a visit - good, hearty meals, good beer and a friendly, easy-going vibe, as well as a beautiful location. Lydenburg has a rich history that's worth researching. There's plenty of beauty and quirky, hearty loveliness to be found in this special town. It was very nice located in a quite position with very nice grounds and we really enjoyed staying in a cape Dutch style hotel.
