We decided we were going to wait around lunch time to make a decision. During the wait, we had a lovely early lunch, unfortunately, the weather didn't clear up. We were planning to stay the night on the mountain, as we couldn't anymore we sought accommodation in the area.
The manager mentioned that if we couldn't find any accommodation we were more than welcome to pitch our tents on his property.

So very pleasant and accommodating. The location is wonderful, easy access to great hikes, including a hike up to Mont-aux-sources to stand on the top of the amphitheatre. Staff were helpful in guiding us and helping us choose hikes to do. Breakfast was good, the hot options were quite limited and the breakfast options were not varied, ie. The views are lovely, but definitely try to request a room with a mountain view. We luckily did have one, but there are quite a few rooms that wouldn't have the view and the view is why you're there really. The rooms are comfortable, good large bed and a bathroom with a shower which are in good condition.
The room was not weather tight and in windy conditions, the wind swirled around outside the room, making a huge racket and coming in under the door as there was a gap under it. We had a storm while we were there and the same applied for the rain. We had a rain trail halfway into the room before we used one of the towels to stick under the door to keep the wind and rain from coming in.
We found some of the restaurant staff to be quite overbearing, standing over our table the whole time we were eating, until we asked her to move and looking over our shoulder and asking about tip while we were looking at the bill. This was a bit annoying. We had a really delicious and inexpensive meal the first night we were there, but then all the other subsequent nights there was only a buffet option, which was expensive especially in light of the fact that we didn't want to eat a lot, just a salad or little plate of food.
There are no other options for food nearby at all, so would be nice to have the option of something small if you don't want to have a buffet. There are no real other facilities other than the restaurant, bar and lounge, so when the weather is bad, there is not much to do. It would be nice for them to have even a selection of board games that one could play in the lounge etc.
Would have been nice to have a bar fridge in the room and the cellphone signal was non-existent, as was the wifi. Food was very good and very cheap. The room itself wasn't huge but the bed was very comfortable and the shower was very nice. The staff was very nice for the most part. These are hikes on the western and southern borders of the park, as the lodge itself is on the western border of Royal Natal park. Most of the hikes on their website were ones I didn't see on the hiking map they gave us at the front desk, but maybe they were close by and just not labeled?
Also note that the trails can be unclearly marked in areas! Overall, amazing scenery and hiking trails though. Also only 5 mins of free Wi-Fi per day that we could only get in the lodge. Witsieshoek is a beautiful place. Our room was clean and a good size even though we got one of the cheapest rooms. The food was very good. However, the information available at reception was not great.
The website said it was a good idea to get a guide for the Amphitheatre walk. The receptionist said it was not necessary and talked us out of getting a guide.
However, the track was not always well marked and we wished we had a guide. The road to the Amphitheatre walk is supposed to be ok for a normal car but when we were there it was very rough and difficult. The lodge runs a shuttle — a much better idea — but we had to ask for it, it was not offered.
