I stayed there for a night with three of my friends, and I write this with a pang of regret because Carnarvon House was so good I wish my stay was longer! The best thing abt this guesthouse is its owner Terry and his cousin, Eunice. Without them, our stay would have lacked the personal touch and that intangible extra something, the x-factor, that makes you want to come back to Penang just so you can stay with them again.
I'm in the service industry too, and I sure know a thing or two abt the hallmarks of good service. The passion both Terry and Eunice have for what they do and their warm "Asian" hospitality comes across so naturally as they sit down with you to talk to you. What impressed me most was that Terry voluntarily sat down with us for a long time to share with us the sightseeing and gourmet spots in Penang in such painstaking detail. He also has done up a map of good food places complete with pictures and descriptions of the food available.

Even though we only had a day in Penang, we managed to go to more than six places thanks to Terry's detailed explanation and pointers. We didn't even need to use google maps to locate these places, and the food he recommended like Penang Assam laksa, fishball noodles, char kway teow and cendol were really to-die-for! I am glad I made this choice and my friends are thankful that I chose this hotel. Thank you Terry for going out of your way to be such a fantastic host!
Also, Terry shows genuine care for his guests and I feel so comfortable at Carnarvon House, as though I'm putting up at a good friend's place. My friend wanted to meet a friend at Komtas, which was 17 mins on foot according to Google Maps, but Terry overheard and offered to take us there despite his busy schedule. I'm really overwhelmed with gratitude by his generosity, patience and the lengths to which he goes to for his guests. Thank you Terry and Eunice for making our stay such a fantastic1. I stayed at Carnarvon House with a friend while we were holidaying in Penang.
We felt like we had stumbled upon a real gem of a place when we arrived! The rooms are well kept and good value for travellers who are looking for decent accommodation with character, while you explore Georgetown itself. The bathrooms are all communal, which I must admit I was a little put off by before we actually got there. But once we had arrived I was amazed at how clean the bathrooms were kept and maintained throughout the day, and I had no qualms about using them! The staff are seriously the nicest people we had met throughout our whole trip. They will accomodate to your every need, and really know how to make you feel at home.
I will most definitely be booking here again when i come to Penang for a trio in a few months. Thanks everyone at Carnavon House for making our stay so special! Our stay in Carnarvon House was excellent! Eunice sat with us and provided us all the information we needed.
She went above and beyond! They also upgraded our room for a night as we stayed for 5 nights. The house is beautiful and preserved to its historic glory.
We had breakfast included and Eunice would go out of her way to make sure we had a variety by buying good local food around the area for us. She would even ask us what we wanted to eat the night before. Terry was also very friendly and helpful and we felt like we were at home. The location is smack in the middle of Georgetown, walking distance everywhere.
We rented a Vespa from Sam's Bookstore on Chulia street for a deal and Eunice helped recommended places for us to travel too.

We had the best time there and will definitely go back. Thanks Eunice and Terry for everything! First we were attracted by the house decoration, feels like going back to the old times. It's few blocks away from the tourists sites but really close to the shopping mall, where got the main bus stops, theater, play ground, and where you can get a local SIM card for internet. The street across is full of great food, they open until 11pm, great for midnight food. The owner upgrated our room to a bigger room when we arrived, which is completely out of expect and stunned by his generosity.
The house was quiet, clean, ancient, and renovated. We were so satisfied with everything of the house itself. Both of our hosts are so kind, they patiently showed us where to visit. There was a huge map made by Terry-owner himself in the lobby, giving so much information for the area. We checked the map every morning before leaving the house. Overall Carnarvon house is a great place to stay for couple or solo traveler.
We had a great time and suggest for who ever wants to visit Penang! We spent two night at Carnarvon house. We really like the atmosphere of the place, very homey, with Nice decoration detailed. The staff are very friendly and helpful. We chose Kapitan room. Room is very close to common shower, which is very convenient. The shower and toilet are clean, all the shampoo shower gel, hairdryer, drinking water are provided.
The location is just great, very close to Armenian road.
The street is not noisy. One drawback is the noise from wooden floor when walking which was expected due to old wooden structure of the house. I will definitely chose this place again for my next visit in penang. Carnarvon House is a very nice guesthouse, worth for money. The guesthouse locates in the heart location of heritage site, it is very quiet and peaceful.
They are only 7 rooms are available, and it has a very large lounge with perfect decoration small garden. The owner is very friendly to offer support. If I would need a place to stay in Penang, I would never think about other places. It was such like a little family, I really miss the time there! I find Carnarvon House very tastefully designed and managed.

It being on a less busy street also makes it all the more quaint and peaceful! Terry was wonderful as host. Would totally go back here again. I was apprehensive at first because I don't usually opt for shared bathrooms, but after reading all the good comment, I decided to give Carnarvon House a go and I was definitely not disappointed.
