From Gauteng and Bloemfontein they go via Ladybrand because it is more or less the entry point into Lesotho via Maseru.

Inside Lesotho taxis are all over Yes, there might be some "problem". I get the idea that "taxis" aka mini bus are a transport medium mostly used by the non-white population of RSA.
And, I get the impression that this area around Clarens of the Free State is a rather "white" area. Still, I will give it a day - to travel from Clarens to Ladybrand.
In worst case there are private taxis. At a cost Erik, Clarens is a tourist town on no route from anywhere to anywhere.

I half grew up in that area as my family is from there and know it very well and it is the most beautiful part of SA If you need better focused information also in general about Southern Africa you can write me an e-mail at jk[at]sun. I just wonder if that is realistic or not? Yes, Ladybrand is only a few Kms from Maseru Bridge. But how are you going to arrive in Ladybrand? There are also minibus taxis from Bloemfontein to Maseru Bridge. I have read somewhere that it is hard to one direct ride from Bloemfontein to Maseru, so I was thinking of using Intercape bus service to get closer to Ladybrand?
